Professional video production and your marketing campaign

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

There are virtually no successful companies or brands these days which aren’t using professional video production as part of marketing campaigns for new products and improved services. If your business isn’t yet harnessing the marketing power of online video content, you need to ask yourself why not.

There are a few essential elements each successful marketing video has in common. Firstly, your video campaign needs to have very clear objectives and aims determined at the outset. Without this, your video will be unfocused and ineffective.

Next, you need to think about who your video is aimed at, and how you can best reach out to this group of people to appeal to their desires, aspirations and needs. It is very important to keep your target market in mind at all times when commissioning your video content. For example, if you plan to sell to UK audiences, make sure you use the best video production UK services you can get your hands on.

Your video marketing campaign also needs to let viewers get an idea of your brand ethos as well as delivering product information, and it should also be consistent with other parts of your marketing material output (i.e. print ads, TV campaigns etc.).

Bearing all of the aforementioned things in mind, we now come to the specialities that creative video production services can offer your business. The most successful marketing campaigns are ones that are inspirational, or aspirational, or that tell a story, or that do something that no one else has done before. They are a talking point, something to get excited about.

With all this to think about when integrating video into your marketing campaign, it can be incredibly useful to have the expertise, skills and knowledge of professional video production companies on your team.

Office Fax Machines - Central or Personal, Hard or Soft?

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

There are dozens of quality fax machines on the market. But before considering any of them, there are decisions to make. Should you get one that attaches only to your computer, or is it better to have a central fax system? Do you even need fax hardware, or should you use software on your own computer?

Part of the decision hinges, of course, on whether you have more than one worker in your office. There’s less point in spending extra money or time to have a separate fax machine when only one person will ever use it.

But even if you are a one-person office, you still need to consider whether to invest in extra hardware at all. One alternative option is to use the equipment attached to your computer, along with software to send or receive faxes.

The pros and cons of this alternative are easy to list.

For sending a fax of a document stored on your computer, it’s ultra-easy to use your existing phone line or Internet connection to ship it anywhere. Most Internet connections allow you to integrate a phone line if you use it to send or receive faxes. Software and sites are not hard to find to use web-based software to send a fax almost as easily as you would an email.

But, for sending, that assumes you already have the document stored in the form of a file on your computer. If you have to fax a hardcopy document the situation can get a little more tricky. A scanner can easily overcome that problem, though. If you have one, attach it to your system and scan the document. Then you’re in business just as before.

Receiving faxes is as simple as plugging your phone line into the modem built-in to your system and configuring software that comes with the operating system. If you need a hardcopy, you can easily print any received fax on your personal printer.

If you don’t already have a scanner or perhaps even a printer, though, the decision requires a little extra thought. In those cases, it may well be worthwhile to buy a separate fax machine. Models that combine printer/scanner/fax/copier features are perfect for this purpose.

That leads to the decision of whether to centralize. For an office with only two computers on a small network, it may still be less expensive (and simpler) to attach the fax to one or the other. For an office network with multiple computers it often is simpler to centralize. That means using either a network-attached fax machine or a standalone model.

Building one central server that provides printing, faxing, Internet and other services requires only modest expertise today and a modest additional investment. It can be used as a backup server as well to store documents that are saved, sent and received.

For many, the use of a standalone fax machine (sometimes in a fax/copier/scanner combination) remains the best option, though. It’s ultra-easy to implement and use and requires only a phone line to operate. There’s no need to install, configure or learn any special software.

Which approach to faxing is best will vary, of course, with personal circumstances. Give some thought ahead of time to your solution and you’ll be free to give almost none to it later on.

Do you have to give presentations at work? Then teleprompting software from TelmaxTeleprompters.com is one piece of office equipment you can’t be without.

Halo 3

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

The other day, while looking through the Internet for information on the Halo 3 weapons cheats, I came across a number of what-if scenarios? What if Master Chief fought different famous characters from movies, comic books, and legends? Here follows a list of some of these battles and my take on the result.

While technically not a Halo 3 weapon cheat, the match-up of Master Chief versus Robocop could be a good one. According to the information on the Internet both have a few similarities. They’re both human, they’ve both been enhanced, they both have fantastic armour and they are both experienced fighters. Most respondents thought that Master Chief would defeat Robocop, but let’s face facts, Master Chief can be defeated with a pistol, whereas Robocop was still going after being blown up at a gas station. The nod has to go to Robocop.

When Master Chief battles with the next fighter he would do well to have a Halo 3 weapon cheat. The next is MacGyver. Master Chief has a lot of advantages. He is proficient with a number of weapons; he has that fantastic armour; he has some incredible vehicles at his disposal; he’s a Clint Eastwood type loner and he can regenerate himself. However, in short, MacGyver is brain over brawn. It would probably boil down to the same considerations in a fight between Batman and Superman. If it’s a closed arena where it’s man versus man, Master Chief is going to win. But put this battle in the real world with Swiss army knives and duct tape at his disposal, and MacGyver’s going to wipe the floor with our bionic pal.

So far Master Chief is 2-0 down, it’s starting to look like he can definitely use a Halo 3 weapon cheat. But we’ll give him another chance. This time it’s Master Chief versus Terminator. We already know Master Chief’s powers, the Terminator’s are an ability to master every weapon, relentless willpower, indefatigability, amazing focus to destroy his prey. It all boils down to the Spartan laser weapon. As one respondent said, if Master Chief can destroy vehicles with this weapon he can certainly put a pretty big hole in the Terminator too.

Let’s have one more contest before Master Chief discovers his Halo 3 weapon cheat. How would he do against Boba Fett from Star Wars? The main differences between Master Chief and Boba Fett are that Boba has no shields, owns his own ship and has a jet pack.

Many people believe Star Wars wins this battle, but Master Chief’s weapons are far more powerful than those owned by the bounty hunter. This one makes it even at 2-2. Master Chief is 50-50.

So, those are the results of the survey - the people have spoken. In this small poll that we read on the Internet, Master Chief is your average sort of super hero, who is not sure to win every single bout, unless he finds his weapon cheats or the story writers want him to, that is.

Halo 3 Free Trial

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

The release of Halo 3 was wildly anticipated, as the game was the third in the original three-part series of the Halo videos. As a result, the Halo 3 free download was one of the most downloaded video game demos in the history of the Xbox 360. But what many people don’t remember is that the Halo 3 trial download helped make another game ie Crackdown.

What does the Halo 3 demo download have to do with any another video game? Well, it has a great deal to do with the distribution and promotional work for a game that was originally meant for release on the Xbox system. Microsoft had become worried that Crackdown wouldn’t sell a lot.

And so they used a marketing tactic, the one of bundling Crackdown with an access code to the Halo 3 trial download. And it worked a treat because Crackdown sold 1.5 million copies within the first half year of its release. Those aren’t Halo 3 figures, which sold 8.1 million copies in slightly over a year, but for a lesser well-known game that’s absolutely terrific.

Microsoft had resorted to the Halo 3 trial download tactic because of poor opinions about the game from the play testers. They found the nonlinear nature of the game confusing, often leaving them asking themselves what they were supposed to be doing next.

Because of this, the powers that be knew that something had to be done or the game would be a loser. It may seem dodgy practice at first to try to force sales of a game that’s expected to be unpopular, but in hindsight people like the game and it was a good thing that they were able to get the chance to play it.

In Crackdown, and that includes the one bundled with the Halo 3 free download, people play the role of an agent who is detailed to beat the kingpins or leaders of various gangs. To do this they make use of some superhuman powers such as super strength and super agility. In order to obtain these powers, players have to build up experience by beating enemies who then release experience orbs. The interesting part of the system was that the sort of orbs released was reliant on the manner in which the agent killed the enemy. For example, a firearms orb appears if the enemy was killed with a gun.

So, while at first sight this game bundled with the Halo 3 trail download appears to be nothing but a veiled marketing gimmick, in reality it exposed gamers to an exciting gameplay world.

What is a Halo 3 Mod?

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

A Halo 3 mod is generally thought of as any software modification that alters the game play in the super popular video game for the Xbox 360, Halo 3. But the term also includes many other modifications, such as physical changes made to the Xbox 360 console to show the world that you are a hard-core Halo fanatic.

However, before someone can create a Halo 3 mod, they must have the proper tools, along with some technical expertise and knowledge. These tools would generally includes a number of pieces of software that allow people to de-construct, edit, and reconstruct Halo 3 files. It would also involve some hardware to allow the Xbox 360 hard drive to be read into a PC and the files to be downloaded to that hard drive.

You have to do this because the Xbox 360 is not a unit on which files can be modified. In the past, the hardware developers, in this case Microsoft, made the tools available to those who paid the licensing fee. But over time, especially with Halo 3 mods, the public has developed several tools and techniques to achieve what has to be done for modification.

A Halo 3 mod also includes, as written earlier, physical changes to the Xbox 360 console itself. For instance, some people might remove the case and actually carve the words ‘Halo 3′ into it. They might also accompany this by painting the console red, blue or green to match the colour of the armour of the heroes in the game.

It’s a rather extreme way to say to the world - I love Halo 3 - in that sometimes it could result in actual damage that renders the Xbox 360 unplayable. People often display their customized Xbox 360s on photo-sharing sites such as Flickr and when they go toattend live LAN events.

One of the things that people who are fanatical about the world of the Halo 3 mod try to insist on is that these should not be created for the purpose of cheating. Modifications are fun to get a new aspect on Halo 3 play or a new look for certain levels. But if they’re used to make the game unfair in favour of one person or team, they ruin the general game for everyone.

One website where a person can find many a Halo 3 mod is H3mod.com. The site calls itself the ‘future of Halo modding’. It seems to be a good place to begin if you want to learn about a Halo 3 mod.

Halo 3: The Spectacle

Screenshots from Halo 3

Friday, August 14th, 2009

When a video game series is as wildly popular as the Halo series, which includes Halo 3, of course, then it’s bound to result in there being many screenshots available. This article focuses on some of the weird and wild Halo 3 screenshots.

Before mentioning the Halo 3 screenshots specifically, let’s take a look at the figures that generate all of this media. Over 9 million copies of Halo 3 have been sold so far. That means that if each person who purchased the game plays for only 10 hours, there are more than 90 million hours of game time from which to choose screen shots. A lot can happen in 90 million hours, and with all the image-uploading websites available to people, a lot of it has been uploaded.

One of the issues in Halo 3 that has often been documented in Halo 3 screenshots is what Master Chief looks like or more specifically, what his face looks like. If you use Google to look up the top 10 Halo 3 screenshots, you’ll find a picture of Master Chief lying dead on the ground, clearly not showing a face inside his helmet. This explains why we never see his face, say many players, because he does not really have one.

Another one of the Halo 3 screenshots appearing in the top 10 Halo 3 screenshots is the one of a Marine getting hammered on a floodgate. Someone commented that it looked a little bit like Han Solo when he was frozen in Carbonite. And do you know what? - they’re absolutely correct.

The makers of Halo 3 wanted to make it a lot simpler for people to take Halo 3 screenshots and to share them all over the Internet. To accomplish this, they created a ‘Saved Films’ feature in the game. This feature permits players to slow down the action, or even to freeze it, change the camera angles and even move the camera around to get exactly the screenshot they want to have. Generally speaking, the ‘Save Films’ feature records all the action that takes place in the game, so it can later be turned into videos are screenshots.

Another feature that has a lot to do with Halo 3 screenshots in the ‘Save Films’ feature, is the watching of previously saved films. You see, the saves are not just images or video, they’re real game data. This means two things: 1] the file size is pretty small and 2] the whole game can be watched from different angles on the Xbox 360.

Which means to say that a player could replay a game again and again, seeing new things in new places every time they watch it. That’s a great deal better than plain Halo 3 screenshots.

When Did Halo 3 Come Out?

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

On May 15, 2007 the information was out, that Halo 3 would be released on September 25 in North America and the 26th in Europe. Halo 3 was the third in a wildly popular series for the Xbox 360 called ‘Halo’. According to the vice president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment business, Halo 3’s release was much more than just a video game release, it was the biggest media event of the year. He might just have been right as well.

The full history of Halo 3 really has to start with the publication of the first game in the series ‘Halo: Combat Evolved’. In November, 2001, when Halo was first published, game consoles were somewhat of a joke as one-person shoot-em-up games. Yes, some games existed, but there weren’t the popular following that the PC games in the genre had.

That was all changed in Halo, in which players could battle aliens on foot and in vehicles, in order to complete objectives, while trying to unravel the secret of the Halo. Halo was the first to limit the amount of weapons a player could carry to two, which in turn, meant forcing the player to take strategic decisions in order to complete his missions.

People waited for the publication of Halo 3 with baited breath. They awaited the continuation of the one-person, shoot-em-up combat format that had been dominant in the two previous versions of Halo. Microsoft calls it the ‘Golden Triangle of Halo’, which consists of gun-type weapons, grenades and others. In reality, this was not new to one-person, shoot-em-up games, as it had existed since the very first Doom and even the predecessor to that game, Wolfenstein.

So, with all of that previous history, people were full of anticipation about the Halo 3 release date. How popular and welcome was the game? Well, before its release, 3.1 million copies were sold in advance orders and retailers thought that that was insufficient.

The game grossed $300 million in the United States in only its first week. Overall, it has sold over nine million copies worldwide and was the best-selling video game in the United States in 2007. Even the critics liked it, ranking it the seventh highest in the all-time list of Xbox 360 games.

The Halo 3 release date, like the release date of many widely popular video games was almost like a holiday like Christmas or Easter. It leaves us with the question of what will happen with video games in the future?
