The road trip is an adventure that was distinctly born on the hot and dusty roads of the American open highways. While the United States is obviously not the only place one can undertake road trips, it is still largely a uniquely American experience.

Unlike our counterparts across the pond, we have land, vast amounts of it. We have states bigger than many European countries. In Europe, cities and countries are not so far apart and can be reached fairly easily. In America, it can take a whole a day off hard driving to reach a destination, thus creating a car traveling culture.

Unlike America, Europe has also invested heavily in mass transportation. With so little land to build on, and so many locations near each other, Europe realized early on that they were well situated for a good mass transit system. America is so spread out, the cost of building railways and subways everywhere would have been staggering. Although, in hindsight, America should have done much more in the past to promote mass transit in heavily congested areas.

Another factor is that the automobile is a uniquely American invention. Sure people in other places have them, but the automobile was created here and has come to represent the freedom and liberty to go anywhere at any given time. The idea that we can just take off and go explore the world without being tied to home all the time is one that is very America. We like our freedom and bought into the idea of the automobile almost as soon as it was invented.

Nearly everyone has gone on road trips. The time spent with friends and families in the car have produced many great times and memories for everyone. The excitement of reaching a location, the odd sites and tourist traps encountered along the way, the singing, the car games being played and (now) movies watched while traveling. Places To Go Skiing In Europe

Europe is the birthplace of skiing. The first drawings of a skier were found in a cave in Nordland, Norway. The drawing has been dated at 5000 BC. Norway was almost certainly the home of skiing or what is called Nordic Skiing anyway.

Alpine or downhill skiing probably comes from central Europe in the neighbourhood of Switzerland. There are such a lot of skiing resorts in Europe that there is a fantastic number of slopes for each level of experience.

You can ski in almost every country in Europe. The least well-known skiing resorts are almost certainly in Scotland, but they do have them and the most well-known resorts are in the French and Swiss Alps, which are actually the same place, but they extend over two different countries.

The French and The Swiss alps are the most commercialized for luxury and are also the most expensive. Not far east from there is Austria which, although less famous is also an attraction for skiers from Eastern Europe.

If you want skiing at a more affordable rate go to Italy up on the Swiss border. There you will see practically the same skiing conditions as in the French and Swiss Alps but with Italian food and language, which means less English is spoken though, if you see that as a downside.

Roughly the same price is Andorra which is Catalan (Spanish to you and me, but not to them). Andorra sits in the Pyrenees Mountains with borders on France and Spain. The Spanish influence is the greater of the two. Skiing in Andorra is famous for its teaching. It is a fantastic place to learn skiing or to take the family.

The facilities are excellent, but local wages are low which keeps the costs down. The food is good and so is the wine, though not perhaps a match for French, Italian or Spanish cuisine.

Bulgaria is another rising location on the skier’s map. Skiing is not well commercialized in Bulgaria but the locals have been skiing for centuries, it is merely that they are only just beginning to learn how to commercialize it. The locals are friendly, but do not expect much English to be spoken.

We must not forget the home of skiing, Norway and the rest of Scandinavia. Expect top class amenities in Scandinavia with top class prices to match. The locals are very friendly, but might not speak English. The food is more likely to be local too. You are more likely to get decent skiing conditions all year round in Scandinavia as well.

There are so numerous skiing resorts in so numerous European countries, that if you wanted to, you could organize a skiing tour of Europe. Controlling Mosquitoes

Mosquito is a familiar insect which belongs to the family Culicidae. The word mosquito is of Spanish and Portuguese origin which translates as ?little fly?. A mosquito passes through four phases in its life cycle i.e. egg, larva, pupa and adult. The fully developed mosquito is also called an imago. Eggs are laid by adult females in still water like puddles, lakes, ponds, or containers etc.

The life of an adult mosquito is four-eight weeks long. The mouthparts of mosquitoes are adapted to pierce the skin of animals and plants. Males feed on nectar and the juices of plants while the females have to feed on blood to get nutrients in order to lay eggs. Over 3,500 species of mosquitoes are to be found in the world.

The females of some species feed on humans and are the cause of many contagious illnesses. Egg development and blood digestion are two vital events in the life of female mosquitoes. They serve as a vector to transfer viruses and parasites from one person to another.

Mosquito control is necessary for getting rid of harmful mosquitoes and the illnesses spread by them. It is estimated that mosquitoes spread illnesses to over 700 million individuals in Asia, Africa, Mexico, Central America and South America. Many deaths are the result of contagious illnesses caused by the bites of mosquitoes.

Source reduction is a very efficient way to control mosquitoes by removing stagnant water. Biocontrol is a different remedy by which natural enemies of mosquitoes are used to control their numbers.

Chemical pesticides will kill adult mosquitoes because they are the most harmful from the point of view of spreading disease. DDT was used for the reduction of mosquitoes on a large scale but now it?s use is prohibited in some countries. Different kinds of repellents are used to deter mosquitoes from biting. DEET is used as an effective repellent.

Picaridin and IR3535 are also very commonly used CDC-recommended repellents. Oil of Eucalyptus is a natural repellent and it is highly recommended. It is very important to take safety measures to protect yourself from the contagious diseases carried by mosquitoes.

Bed bugs feed in a similar way to mosquitoes. They insert a tube into the skin of its prey and suck blood out. It is not a great deal to you, about a quarter of a millilitre, but is a lot to them. It allows them to live and reproduce.

Bed bugs, unlike their relatives the ticks, are not known to convey any diseases. In fact, they are one of the few insects that do not pass on a disease.

A bedbug bite is similar to an ant bite in appearance, but it will itch similar a mosquito bite. You will most likely experience a slight swelling with a red dot in the centre and an itch. Not much more.

You can check for bed bugs quite easily by soaking a bar of soap in a little water for half an hour while you lie on your bed reading a book. Then get up and fetch the soap, wet-side down and throw back the bed clothes. Pat up the bed bugs, if there are any with the soft soap. This is a speedy method of getting rid of a small number of bed bugs, but cannot be seen as a solution.

With regards to the annihilation of an infestation of bed bugs, it depends where you live. If you are in a hotel, the bar of soap will be proof enough of a problem and it is the hotel manager’s duty to provide a solution. If they do nothing, report the hotel to the neighbourhood tourist bureau.

If you live in rented accommodation, it is your landlord’s responsibility to solve the predicament. If he or she is disinclined, then go to the council hall and seek advice.

If the issue is in your own house, then take the skirting boards and architraves off. Spray or paint very powerful insecticide onto the wall and refit the woodwork. If you are still worried, seal the woodwork off on all sides with mastic or silicone.

These measures will ensure that your house will be free of bed bugs.
