Spending Time With Your Family Is Better For Your Mental State

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

People really should check if their computers or Televisions are stealing the valuable time that they could be spending with other family members. There is a mounting concern about the increased amount of time that families spend browsing the net or watching television. Lots of American family members are spending a smaller amount of time with other family members as exposed in a survey. The figures confirm that an internet user spends an average of 3 hours online every day, while viewers spend an average of 1.7 hours every day in watching TV.

Houses are slowly being transformed into boarding houses. There would seem to be an emerging culture of adults not paying attention to their companions and kids, and kids not being mindful of their parents and siblings. The family is considered to be the breeding ground for potential leaders and responsible citizens. In the domicile, parents and children are anticipated to give and be given love and transform this all of society. It is here where children discover the ethics of faith, cooperation, and kindness, and how to deal with anger, failure, embarrassment, etc. It is here where adults continue to strengthen emotionally and seek to live life to the max.

There is no replacement for the home as an emotional support. Observations on several teenagers demonstrate that they are clever, but a lot of of them are deficient in emotional intelligence. To put it simpler, many of them do not know how to “read” others - not even themselves. It has been said that emotional intellect refers to the capability of anyone to comprehend, examine, and handle his or her own emotions. This can only be learned when a person is given the time to live, work, and play with real people.

In many families today, members spend an increasing amount of time either with their online friends or their Television news and superheroes. A 2004 survey on internet use confirmed a connection involving spending time online and time spent with the family. Surprisingly, it was found that family members are denied an average of 23.5 minutes by a user for every hour he or she spends online on a daily basis. The typical surfer also will get a reduced amount of sleep by about 8.5 minutes per day for each hour he or she spends on the internet.

If online associates, games and Television programs become more vital than the actual people that family members reside with, then families will suffer. Families ought to spend more time with “real” friends in their houses. Getting together around the dinner table or taking a reasonably priced family excursion are just some easy ways of family bonding. Families become more solid when they are interacting face-to-face more regularly. By doing so, each member will come to recognize the value of each others real interests and understand what they think and feel.

Typically I do not write about spending time with friends or family. I’m so busy writing about surfing with an IP changer to protect your Internet identity that I tend not to spend time with my own family. So I thought I would write this piece and then unplug for awhile.

Designer Clothing

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Wearing designer clothing was not done in our household whilst I was growing up, but then with five children, my parents probably did not have sufficient money to encourage us to think of wearing designer clothing. That has stayed with me and I do not think about wearing designer clothing even now that I can afford them.

However, these days, most children appear to be aware of designer clothing. This probably shows the power of marketing and the fact that modern advertisers are more callous in targeting children than there antecedents in the Fifties and Sixties were.

The difficulty with children wanting to wear designer clothing though is that they do not understand why they ought to wear a particular item, they only see the adverts and the fact that their idols and friends are wearing them.

There is a decent argument for wearing designer clothing but imitation is not one of them. Neither is having been persuaded to by advertisers and friends. The only decent reason for preferring designer clothing is because you like a designer’s style and theme. Most designers have a particular style although this can change from year to year.

A great deal of designers splash their names all around their clothes, which spoils them for me. However, all clothing designers like to have their name or logo in a prominent place. They do this for two reasons: firstly to advertise because otherwise their clothing is not distinctive enough ( a Lacrosse sweater without the crocodile is unrecognizable); and secondly, so that the wearer can show off the fact that they are wearing designer clothing.

Often clothing designers will branch out into other regions of designer wear. For instance, Gucci endorse shoes, sunglasses and wrist watches. Gucci is hoping that if you like their shoes you will also want their sunglasses and wrist watches as well. In fact, this tactic works well. Wearers of designer clothing build up a relationship with the designers that they like and are more likely to trust that brand.

The problem for most people is the cost. Designer clothing is a great deal more expensive than regular clothing and that is how it is meant to be, because part of the reason for wearing designer clothing is snob value - to set yourself apart from the herd. This permits clothing designers to make vast profits which opens up another problem - counterfeiting.

Where there is a chance of big profits you will find counterfeits, fakes or copies. If you are inexpert at recognizing designer clothing, you could easily get sucked into spending a lot of money on counterfeit items. Often it is not the clothing itself that is copied, although that is done as well, but the accessories are imitated a lot.

I have no figures, but I would not be astonished if there are ten times as many phony Gucci sunglasses in the world as real ones. So be careful, particularly if you do not have sight of what you are purchasing, as in the case of the Internet and be wary of market stalls and back street bulk traders.

Why You Ought To Start Planning Your Party Early

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

There are quite a few chances to give a party during the year what with birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, New Year, Independence Day et cetera, et cetera, but every party has one thing in common, they all have to be planned and the sooner that that planning is started the better.

There are good reasons for starting your planning early. Things can go wrong and individuals can let you down, but if you begin planning early, you can switch to ‘plan B’ easily. You may also have ideas as you are performing your planning and then you will have time to implement them.

Depending on what form of party you are planning, you may have to start planning about a month ahead, but you may have to begin even earlier, if you require outside catering or specialized objects like a bouncy house. You might have to book these items months in advance in order to get hold of exactly what food you would like or the theme of the bouncy house that you would like.

Depending on where you are holding the party and how many are coming, you might also need to request permission or even a license and you may even need portable toilets too. How about security and sign posts? For example, it is quite standard for organizers of wedding parties in rural Thailand to employ security, who will also provide road signs and will direct traffic.

Another good reason for planning early is that you can purchase items that you require weekly and so spread the cost. You could buy the paper plates, plastic knives, forks and spoons, plastic beakers, straws and paper table cloths in the first week, the other items you need, such as the drinks, crisps and biscuits, in the following weeks, until all you have to buy in the week of the party is the perishable food such as sausage rolls, pies, pasties, sandwiches and cakes.

You may also need specialized decorations, particularly for themed birthday parties, Halloween and Christmas. Buying the correct decorations for these kinds of parties can take a while, which is another reason for beginning your planning earlier rather than later.

Another good reason for getting started early is that you can get the invitations out early, which gives your guests the opportunity to put you in their diaries. It also gives them lots of time to accept or refuse the invitation so that you can either invite more people to make the numbers up or you can inform the caterers that you will need less food.

It is a sad fact that in spite of all your planning, some facets will go wrong, they always do and you will forget some things as well, people always do and the best precautions against these potential calamities are firstly to begin planning early and secondly to get a few people involved in the planning, because as they say, two heads are better than one.

Is There An All-In-One Sports Nutrition?

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Sport is almost certainly the number one or number two entertainment in the world. Individuals are fascinated by sport, but why is it so absorbing? Is it envy? Do we wish that we could run that fast, play that hard and generate that much money? Or do we identify with with the athletes? Do we comprehend how much they suffered, worked and gave up to get to the top of their chosen field of competition?

Whatever the reason, it seems that in these days of physical excellence, you cannot be a top athlete and hold down a regular job at the same time. In the Seventies, the small country of Wales had the best rugby team in the world for around a decade, but half of the players were only ordinary guys with ordinary jobs.

Training was minimal when likened with today. Nowadays a world-beating team like that would be unimaginable under those conditions. However, it is still possible to be an adept athlete with decent nutrition even if you might not get to be world champion.

Is there an all-in-one sports nutrition supplement? A silver bullet that can make you fit and healthy? Probably not, although there are helpful one-stop products that will give your body all it requires under standard circumstances.

This is helpful for the busy person, because it takes the thinking, researching and shopping out of the equation saving you time. If you go searching for an all-in-one sports nutrient take your time and get one that is suitable for what you do or would like to do.

For instance a marathon runner would probably require a different mix than a weight lifter, although the basic nutrients are almost certainly the same. A weight lifter needs instant power, whereas a marathon runner requires stamina. So be certain you get the right one.

If you are just doing a bit or jogging, hiking a few miles or playing a game of football a week, the runner’s mix is probably better for you than the power lifter’s mix. Which brings me on to the next point.

These mixes frequently have a great deal of calories in them, so bear in mind to burn those calories off with extra exercise or reduce your consumption of other foodstuffs to compensate or you will blow up like a balloon!

One thing is for sure, a good all-in-one sport nutrient will not come cheap. If it is cheap, check the sell-by date and definitely check the contents. How are the calories made up? Is it mostly from carbohydrates? Carbohydrates are cheap or most are anyway and they are rapidly converted to energy which will cause sugar spikes in your blood. Is that what you want? Are you a power lifter?

Dearer mixes will contain more protein which has a slower burn permitting your blood to handle the blood/sugar levels more easily. Another thing to check is whether the mix contains the full recommended daily amount (RDA) of all the vitamins and minerals that you need. And check the fibre content because calories without fibre is not healthy either.

How Can Kids Make Money in Addition to their Allowances

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Kids have a lot of reasons to earn some money for themselves. They might want to spend more money than the allowance they get. Some want to buy some things they really want but more expensive than they currently can afford. Children might also want to raise money to support a cause. Kids make money through numbers of ways and you can teach them some basic things they need to know.

You can find many things that your kids can do to earn money. The most popular jobs for kids are opening a lemonade stand, selling cookies or brownies, tutoring, walking neighbors’ dogs, washing cars or doing other household chores at your own house. You must decide which jobs are best for your kids according to their age. Some of these jobs are also regulated by the local government.

There are a lot of considerations in deciding which job is the most effective for your kids. Your kids are more likely to earn more money if they do something they are good at. Children with high grades can tutor their peers or younger students. If they enjoy baking, they can sell brownies or cookies.

The next step is to determine if your neighborhood is safe. If you think it is not safe for your children to spend a lot of time outside the house, perhaps you can make them do chores in the house. You can also supervise them when they are opening their lemonade or cookie stands.

You have to be responsible for them even when they are working. The level of supervision depends on how old your kids are and their level of maturity. If your kids are around eight and nine, you should not leave them unsupervised. When they are preteen, you may leave them working unsupervised for short period of time.

Most kids make money to spend it freely. Kids need to know how to spend money as effective as earning them. Parents need to teach them about saving their money and using money responsibly. When they are old enough, you also direct them to invest the money they have earned.

Etiquette For Mobile Phone Users

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

Mobile phones or cell phones are a godsend to society - there is no question about that. It is a boon to our private lives, but it is even more important to business. It permits very small firms to remain in touch with customers and potential customers without having to have a secretary or an office.

It is even said that owning a mobile phone is the number one best manner of raising turnover in the Third World. These phones are indispensable for health reasons in remote villages as well.

Coupled with that, mobile phones are cheaper than they have ever been yet so are running costs and call charges. It is no surprise that there is a proliferation of mobile phones around the world. But there is a strong backlash against mobile phones or at least there is a backlash against some users of these telephones.

Mobile phones can be regarded like guns. Guns are not a problem, the problem is the twit who uses one irresponsibly. So, how can we reduce the amount we annoy people when using our mobile phones in public? This is referred to as mobile phone etiquette and all users of phones in public places would be well advised to learn and adopt this etiquette.

The first thing to do is keep in mind that they are known as ‘mobile phones’ that refers to the fact that you can take them with you, so if you are receiving a call when you are in a public place, walk to somewhere where you will not disturb anyone. We do not want to listen to you!

Bear in mind, that your phone ringing in a restaurant, classroom, bus, or even a pub is annoying to most individuals. There is no excuse for this except laziness. Put your telephone on silent with or without vibration and / or flashing light - but no ring tone!

The only sports that come to mind where a mobile phone is not a problem are football and rugby. For all other indoor and outdoor sports, particularly golf, tennis, snooker and poker, turn the thing off all together!

Thinking of the caller, it is not really very good to use your phone whilst you are in the toilet, especially a public lavatory.

If you are in a meeting, it is best to set your phone to voice mail and switch the device off. This is because, even if you do not answer the phone during the meeting, the thought of who it might have been could distract you. This goes for school classes and college lectures too.

If you follow these guidelines of mobile phone etiquette you will not see so many annoyed faces glowering at you and you will brighten the lives of thousands of your fellow humans.

Strategies to Teach your Kids about Utilizing Kids Allowance Effectively

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Our children’s needs are fully provided for by us. What is the importance of children’s allowance? It’s important to introduce allowance at an early age so they can grasp the meaning of money.

In today’s society putting everything on our credit cards or use what kids call “plastic” money is an everyday way of life. This encourages children to live beyond their means from an early age. Credit card debt is a major issue in today’s society and we as parents need to do all we can to stop our children falling into this trap from day one.

Does your child understand the importance of why you need to work? Children won’t understand this unless you explain it to them. Never underestimate children’s understanding about life. Parents need to speak to children about their lifestyle and how it’s a treat to buy take-away on Friday nights or go to the movies. Every time your kids ask for something, do you always buy it for them? Pocket money for kids will help teach them to save for items they want but not necessarily need. Do they have an understanding of what it will cost you from your budget to buy something that was not planned for? Explaining simple things like “why we buy” or “not buy” something for your children is important. They will have a better grasp of being responsible for the family budget just like you.

A good time to start allowance for kids is when they start school. Here they are usually restricted by what is sold at the canteen. Pocket money for kids should always be given with guidelines. We as parents need to emphasize the responsibility we have in how we use our cash. The primary lesson in giving children’s allowance is so they can see value in money. How much is that lollipop worth? Can I get it cheaper elsewhere or buy more if I got jellybeans instead? These mathematical lessons are invaluable.

Parents can also teach children about generosity and the love for humanity. Giving children’s allowance will enable them to bless others with their cash. Children can decide if they would like to donate to the children’s hospital or the Salvation Army when they knock on the door. This self-less nature will help kids discover a deeper meaning of living beyond ourselves. Human being are created with a selfish nature - remember the terrible twos, but nurtured we can appreciate how blessed we are and give to those less fortunate. The more practice children get to do this the easier it becomes and of second nature.

Bank Accounts For Children Are Important

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

One can never start planning too early for getting bank accounts for children. This is a wise investment for a parent to do this for his or her child as it teaches money management skills at a young age. Many accounts add interest so young people can see what happens when they save. They make money! Just for the money sitting there, the bank will deposit small funds every month or quarter. This helps teach delayed gratification and patience.

Even though a parent may be busy, it is still a good idea to sit a youngster down and explain the principles of making money, saving money and managing money. When adulthood starts, sometimes mistakes have already been made and it may be harder to correct mistakes later in life. Earlier is better. Credit card debt is so common among adults and some young adults who are in college so start them young in learning money-management skills.

Lessons learned early can be applied later in life, so kids are rarely too young to be taught sound financial principles. What youth learn early often lasts for a lifetime, so it helps to give them hands on experience at a young age.

A child with a bank account can begin financial planning strategies that can be applied to adult situations. This early practice can help keep them from racking up bad debts and earning bad credit scores later on in life.

Employment is good for a younger person to start as soon as possible. It teaches a good work ethic later in life. If a younger is working at a fast food restaurant or a bookstore, good things can arise out of encouraging them to save part of their paycheck and put it in their saving’s account. That way, each paycheck will be saved and they will see the interest rise every few months and feel gratified that they are putting their money in a good place.

Make clear to your youngster that the bank uses the interest from his or her account for investments. The financial institution will most likely offer several accounts to choose from for your minor child. It is good for them to feel grown-up in receiving a bank statement like his or her parents do. The account should be in the young one’s name. The associate should discuss the account to him or her directly to help facilitate a sense of responsibility.

It also might be good for the parent to buy the child a folder to keep all paperwork in and to teach good record-keeping skills. Encouraging your youngster to focus on one spending goal and not many will help them learn how to spend within their means. This will help them manage bank accounts for children.

Some banks offer special benefits, like no minimum balance on a children’s saving account. Of course when you can deposit a larger sum you can get a free bank checking anyway.
