Long Term Care Insurance Could Be One Of The Best Investments

Monday, May 7th, 2012

It’s difficult to watch ourselves age. It’s also difficult to watch our parents age. It’s even more difficult when it comes to figuring out how to help them when the time comes. This type of help can be anything from some financial assistance, a few trips to the doctor’s office, or helping them find a long term care facility they - or you - can afford. Perhaps you and your parents should have considered buying some long term care insurance years ago. But what is long term care insurance?

In short, it’s probably one of the best investments you can make at any age. Of course, the younger you are when you buy it, the lower your premiums. But what 30 year old seriously considers his old age and associated health problems while he’s young and healthy? Not many!

And so we wait, usually until it’s too late. By the time we see that our spouse might be needing some rehab or nursing services, the actual insurance premiums can be prohibitive.

This type of insurance, in actuality, is one of the most reasonably priced types of coverage when it comes to costs vs. Benefits. A policy purchased in your forties, for example, with standard coverage such as nursing homes and rehab (or hospice), will probably be less expensive than your car insurance!

These policies can be virtually custom designed. There are so many options and so many riders that almost everyone can afford at least some level of coverage. It’s important to note that long term care isn’t always for the sick and elderly. Something as simple as a bad car accident can put that same 30 year old in a rehab facility for a year or more

Different carriers have different types of coverage, different options, and even different health providers. For example, if Uncle John stayed in a particular facility a few years ago and everyone in the family had good things to say about that place, you may want to check out insurance companies that use this facility as a provider.

Some of these policies can provide an incredible amount of financial help when the time comes. With long term facilities averaging over $500 a day, not many regular insurance plans will cover these for more than a few weeks - no matter what.

Before you go out and buy a policy go to LTC Financial Solutions, ask questions and request a long term care insurance. We represent 20 of the top LTCi providers. This gives you tremendous options.

Why Invest In Long Term Care Insurance

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Getting older is not fun. Many middle age adults tend to ignore the fact that they are indeed getting older, and as they cope with their own approaching mortality, they all too frequently find themselves face to face with their parents’ issues of advancing years. As these adults try to provide whatever assistance they can for mom and dad, they rue the day that they decided that long term care insurance just wasn’t worth looking into. But, what is long term care insurance?

Long term care insurance is an excellent investment, no matter what age you are when you buy your policy. Unfortunately, too many of us ignore the fact that we are going to get old someday, and we put off anything to do with forcing us to deal with our own mortality. Until it’s almost too late.

A policy purchased in your forties, for example, with standard coverage such as nursing homes and rehab (or hospice), will probably be less expensive than your car insurance!

Policies differ, as with all sorts of insurance, and you can pick and choose options according to what you can afford or according to what you believe you might need. For instance, if Alzheimer’s runs in your family, you may want to get a plan that supports the in depth level of specialized care these patients need. If everyone in your family lives till 105 and drops dead on the golf course, you may decide to purchase a lesser type of coverage.

Deciding on the type of coverage you want might take into consideration your family history. Someone whose family suffers from heart attacks and strokes might select a more in depth type of coverage than someone whose family members tend to live well into their 90s without major health issues.

Most of these policies can provide an incredible amount of financial help when the time comes. With long term facilities averaging over $500 a day, not many regular insurance plans will cover these for more than a few weeks - no matter what.

How About Recycling Old Computers?

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

Numerous progressive towns and cities are either already recycling or are thinking about recycling old computers. Many municipalities already do this with television sets, but not so many do it with computers.

There are quite a few reusable parts in a computer when you think of it, but most owners just throw their old computers away when they stop working or become ‘too slow’.

Then they go out and buy a new one which has exactly the same DVD player as they just put in the bin. That goes for the net card, the hard drive and the modem and other bits and items as well, I am sure. There might even be toxic substances in the chips that could contaminate the soil at the landfill site.

It will doubtless be regular practice in the not too distant future to recycle computers and other articles of electronic equipment. In fact there are already some places that gratefully accept ‘old’ computers, although there are not many that recycle the components out of broken ones.

Some churches and most charity shops will take working computers to redistribute (or sell) to children, whose parents cannot afford to buy them or to be sent to Third World countries, where there is a dire need for computer hardware so that children are not left behind in the technological advances being made in communication and workplace apparatus.

However, there do not seem to be enough people cannibalizing old computers to make ones that work. After all, any computer is better than no computer at all and it does not take an advanced machine to get on the Net, especially if you do not insist on running Windows 7. Older versions of Windows are more that capable or running Net software. We used them for years, didn’t we?

Monitors and printers are also reusable or even recyclable, although these things are not usually thrown out as frequently as computers. Monitors can be taken care of in the same fashion as televisions, anyway it is always handy to have a standby monitor.

Ink cartridges ought to be refilled rather than renewed. All you require is a bottle of the correct type of ink. Indian ink will do for the black cartridge which is the one most users replace the most frequently.

Take a syringe with a needle, suck up a couple of millilitres and squirt it through the hole in the side - NOT through the hole in the bottom, or you will damage the cartridge. This hole is normally concealed with sticky tape or a label, but it is easy to find if you are searching for it. you can refill cartridges a dozen or more times, before they are clogged and that can save hundreds of dollars (here a black cartridge costs $10-15).

Colour cartridges are refillable in the same way and you should be able to get hold of the three inks necessary for colour printing at a printers. Colour cartridges are even more costly to replace. Another advantage of refilling yourself is that you will not run out of ink halfway through a print job.

Understanding Long Term Care Insurance

As we put off buying the insurance, the premiums increase and finally, for too many of us, we learn the hard way that we will be needing some type of long term care and we either find that we have huge deductibles because we’ll need to use our regular health insurance, or worse, we find out we have to pay for everything out of pocket.

Long term care is probably one of the most affordable types of insurance when you think about what you pay vs. What you get. Policies range from basic care for less a year, to a permanent facility.

The policies can be customized to your needs, or at least, what you think these needs might be. Even though it’s impossible to tell the future, you can always get a good idea of what you should add to these policies simply by understanding your family’s medical history. If your family has a history of coronary heart disease in their 50s, you should seriously consider the best possible coverage if at all possible. In reality, you can’t afford not to.

Deciding on the type of coverage you want might take into consideration your family history. Someone whose family suffers from heart attacks and strokes might select a more in depth type of coverage than someone whose family members tend to live well into their 90s without major health issues.

In the end, you’ll be glad to have this type of coverage whether it’s for your parents, or for yourself.

3 Untypical Bread Recipes

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

Westerners love bread, although not everyone eats it because it is fattening. Eating too much bread is fattening, but good bread is very filling, so there is no need to over indulge, which means that it does not have to become a burden on your waist band. Likewise, good bread does not need butter or margarine, so that is another economy on calories and oil.

Bread can also be a decent source of dietary fibre and once you have eaten real bread, you will never go back to white, sliced, supermarket bread. In fact, it is the white sliced bread that gives bread such a dire name.

These recipes are meant to be mixed and baked in a bread cooking machine, but they can be mixed by hand as well. I have used a bread making machine for years, but I used to prepare it by hand, and I can honestly say that I can not tell the difference between them.

Furthermore, the machine saves a lot of time and because it cooks on a timer, you can wake up to fresh bread every morning, if you want.

Recipe 1

Celery Bread

1 package yeast 1/4 teaspoon ginger 1/4 teaspoon sugar 3 cups Better for Bread flour 1/2 cup Quick-cooking oats 2 tablespoons Gluten 2 teaspoons Celery seeds 1 1/2 teaspoons Celery, Garlic or Onion salt 3/4 cup Celery — fresh/slice thin 1 tablespoon Celery leaves, fresh / chopped 1 Egg 10 3/4 ounces cream of celery soup 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 3 tablespoons warm low-fat milk

Combine all ingredients but cook

Recipe 2

Citrus Bread

2/3 cup water 2 cups white bread flour 1 teaspoon dry milk 2 teaspoons sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon butter 2 tablespoons orange marmalade 2 teaspoons lime juice 1 pinch lemon peel 2 teaspoons yeast (active, dry)

Combine all ingredients yet cook.

Recipe 3

Chart House Squaw Bread

1 1/4 cups warm water 2 tablespoons molasses 1/2 teaspoon caramel coloring * — optional. 1 1/2 teaspoons malted barley flour ** 2 cups bread flour 1/2 cup whole wheat flour 1/2 cup unprocessed bran or wheat bran 1/4 cup dark brown sugar (3 TB) 1 1/2 tablespoons oatbran 1 1/2 tablespoons rolled oats 2 teaspoons granola 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 2 1/2 teaspoons yeast (1 envelope)

Oil yet/or butter are not needed.

* Caramel coloring was merely used to give the bread an almost pumpernickel color. I found it in a cake decorating store which was also a bakery . ** The malted barley flour is also called diastatic malt powder.

In a bowl mix bread flour, whole wheat flour, unprocessed bran, dark brown sugar, oatbran, rolled oats, granola, malted barley flour and salt.

In bread pan add water, molasses, and caramel colouing. Add flour mixture; top with yeast and pick dark bread setting.

NOTE: Raisins could be added if desired. If you do, do not add the caramel colouring but blend the water, 1/4 cup raisins, molasses and brown sugar before adding to the machine.

What Is Antivirus Software?

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

If you access the Internet, you certainly need anti-virus software. It does not matter whether you do not use a computer. Whatever you use to get on line you must have anti-virus software. Although there are hundreds of malicious idiots producing viruses to attack those who access the Internet from a computer, there is an growing number who are targeting mobile phone users too.

It is more difficult to clear viruses from your cell phone as well, because there are less vendors for the anti-virus software and mobile phone users are normally less technologically knowledgeable than computer users, although the technique of removing the virus is quite analogous.

Let’s just use the example of using computers to go on line. If you go on line, your ant-virus software is your most essential item of software. It does not matter what you use the Internet for - transferring data back to base or receiving emails from friends - you are subject to attack.

For example, if you use the Internet only to communicate with your head office, a hacker could try to piggy-back your connection to gain admittance to the mainframe at head office and perhaps access financial or other personal data and if you just send to and receive emails from your friends and family, you are open to assault from malevolent fools around the world.

If you use webmail such as that offered by Yahoo, Hotmail and MSN to name only the most popular, you will be protected from the most obvious attacks, but still not safe. If you receive your email via an email client such as Outlook or Outlook Express, then you do not even have that small amount of protection.

If you do not use email, but only surf the Internet for research or whatever, you are still not safe, because some websites and loaded with viruses, trojans and worms, waiting to unload them onto unwary surfers.

Therefore, whatever reason you surf the Internet for, you could do with some type of protection. Fortunately, anti-virus software for personal use is inexpensive and may even be free. Business users will normally get tax relief on their purchases.

However, be cautious with the free anti-virus software, because not all of it is effectual enough. The exceptions that spring readily to mind are Avira and AVG. These are exceptional items and have rightly achieved worldwide praise. Just Google the two names to get the download address.

The anti-virus software that costs something (typically $25-$50 per annum) invariably offer one to two months free examination before you buy and a reduction in price, if you pay for more than one year at a time. Names that fall into this class are Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton and Nod.

After you have chosen your software, the subsequent steps are the same for free and paid software. First install it and then configure it. If you are not certain how to do that do not worry, the default settings are fine for the vast majority of users. The only choice you will get that it is imperative you make correctly is to consent to automatic updates.

New viruses are being exposed or fixed every day and for your anti-virus software to be effective, you must permit it to bring itself up to date whenever it wishes to.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on many subjects, but is currently involved with the network antivirus software. If you have an interest in such software, please go over to our website now at Computer Antivirus Software

What Is Involved In Boy Scout First Aid Training?

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

The Boy Scout Brigade is a global organization and the rules of membership may vary a little from country to country, but the basics of scouting are the same everywhere. One of the codes of belief of scouting is to ‘Be Prepared’ and being prepared involves being prepared to help others in distress, which also includes First Aid.

Boy Scouts are encouraged to earn badges such as the First Aid badge, there are also badges representing different degrees of ability. One of the things that a scout learns when training for his first First Aid badge is how to put together a personal First Aid kit.

A typical basic Boy Scout’s First Aid kit will include such things as soap, bandages, plasters, iodine, scissors, matches, tweezers and safety pins. At a higher level, the kit may get supplemented with a triangular bandage, insect repellent, talcum powder, aspirins or paracetamol, gloves and a mouthpiece for giving artificial respiration.

A scout and especially a sea scout will learn how to put a person in the coma position and will also be shown how to get water out of a person pulled from the water.

The First Aid training that Boy Scouts receive now has been upgraded many times over the last fifty years due to advances in medical treatment and the explosion of aids and other contagious diseases.

Scouts lead a very dynamic existence and are always building things and climbing. This means that there are quite a few sprains and broken bones among scouts, so it is no wonder that caring for broken bones features largely in their First Aid training.

In fact, one of the first items that a cub or a scout is taught is how to use their neckerchief as a triangular bandage to support a broken arm and how to fold it in order to tie splints to a fractured leg.

Scouts going for higher degree First Aid badges will be shown more detailed courses which might include how and when to apply CPR; how to distinguish a victim of stroke or heart attack; what to do if someone has an epileptic fit; what to do if someone is unconscious or suffering from concussion; how to handle shock and much more.

Lord Baden Powell established the Boys Scout Brigade as a sort of preliminary to going into the army, but it has not been regarded like that for many decades. Nowadays the scouts give boys (and occasionally girls) and teenagers the opportunity to do items that they otherwise would never have the chance to experience - activities like boating, canoing, camping, map-reading et cetera.

These activities put the children at a higher risk of injury, but the scouting organization counters that increased danger by training all their boys in First Aid and both the activities and the First Aid training remains with them for the rest of their lives. It has with me and I will always be grateful to the Boy Scouts for the things they taught me and allowed me to experience.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on numerous topics, but is at present busy with First Aid trainer courses. If you have an interest in RC vehicles, please come over to our website now at First Aid Courses Online.

Tips On Assisting The Elderly In Infirmity

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

The older generation is growing older and from the start of their life until this point, they have walked in similar shoes that you have. Most of the older folks have more character that has been developed over time than the youngster wondering what this life is all about. Assisting the Elderly in infirmity.

Kitchen Decorating

Friday, May 4th, 2012

It’s a Sunday morning and you’re sitting in the kitchen waiting for your coffee machine to stop its various gurgles and noises, so you can drink that vital early morning cup of coffee. Idly, you look about your kitchen and notice a spot of paint missing from the corner of the door. It had happened years ago, but you never really took any notice of it until now.

Your gaze continues to stray and your eye gets caught by a patch of mildew growing under the sink, then you notice the ugly brown colour that your ceiling has become right above where the cooker is.

The paint is slightly off colour, and the only papered wall is beginning to look outdated and faded. You take a strengthening sip of your now-ready coffee and decide that some kitchen decorating is needed.

How do you go about it though? And how soon can you get into it? Now that you’ve finally noticed all the little bits and pieces of decay that you were quite successfully ignoring up until that moment, you can’t wait to start your little kitchen decorating project.

That however is where the crunch comes. Just how modest do you want to keep your kitchen decorating project? Can you get away with slapping a fresh coat of paint on everything or will you need to go to the lengths of removing the wallpaper off the wall, and finding out where that mildew stain might be coming from.

It all depends on you and your budget, but if you can spare the time, energy and money, you’d probably be better off, in the long run. to get rid of all your kitchen decorating problems in one go. That would include stripping off the wallpaper, replacing any carpeting or rugs, and perhaps even sanding down your wooden floors if you have them. However, if you’re going to do a complete job of kitchen decorating, you’ll also need that all important final coat of paint to smarten up your kitchen.

You might also want to consider replacing those tatty old curtains as they’re also probably looking distinctly old by now. So, go ahead and splurge on your kitchen decorating project and replace the curtains and while you’re about it, you should think of investing in a new stack of tea towels as well. It won’t hurt to go the whole hog while you can.

And when you’re finally done, you can sit back and enjoy your new kitchen and remember that weekend morning that started it all off. You’ll have no regrets whatsoever, since your kitchen decorating project has landed you with a better kitchen than you ever hoped for.

A feeling of contentment rushes through you as you bring your new coffee mug to your lips. Life just doesn’t get any better than when you’re enjoying the fruits of your efforts and labour.

Romantic Gifts Suggestions

Friday, May 4th, 2012

Without any shadow of a doubt at all, St Valentine?s Day is the most special day of the year for lovers. Although numerous people argue that St Valentine?s Day is only a commercialized festival created for the reason of encouraging people to purchase cards, flowers and gifts.

On the other hand, there are others who do not care how St Valentine?s Day started and are just pleased to have a day when they can plan a romantic day with the one they adore.

For lots of people, this day involves giving a gift of some sort, whether this is a small present or an expensive gift, working out what to give your loved one for St Valentine?s Day may be a difficult decision. This article will offer a few tips for presents on St Valentine?s Day.

1] One of the simplest, and most common St Valentine?s Day gifts is a card. It might not seem like much, but lots of people, women in particular, contend that a card is one of the best gifts they could receive on St Valentine?s Day.

However, you cannot give just any old card, the best cards convey your feelings towards your loved one and your relationship.

You can buy cards with a pre-printed verse, but you can also get cards which are blank inside, so that you are able to compose your own sentiments and if you are not able to find a card that looks like you would like it to, you could even try to create your own card.

2] Jewelry is another terrific gift for St Valentine?s Day. Easy earrings may be suitable for a new relationship, whereas a dearer present would be fitting for a relationship, which is more deeply rooted.

Despite the cost of the present, the jewelry you give to your partner on St Valentine?s Day will be something she will truly value.

3] A weekend away is another excellent gift for St Valentine?s Day. This kind of present is more appropriate for couples who have been an item for a while or who are married.

f you and your partner have never neen away together before, you may like to discuss the gift with your companion beforehand as opposed to surprising him or her with the present.

4] What would St Valentine?s Day be without candy? The most traditional presents on St Valentine?s Day are flowers and candy. Whilst these gifts are very much prized, most women would agree that candy is their favourite part. Flowers are beautiful and are always treasured, but chocolates, and especially gourmet chocolates are the number one.

5] Finally, there is no reason why Valentine?s Day gifts have to be any different than gifts you would give for other occasions such as a birthday or Christmas. You can give things such as clothing, DVDs, CDs, electronic gadgets or anything else that you know your partner will appreciate.

As long as you are giving your companion a gift you know he or she will appreciate, it will make a good gift for St Valentine?s Day.
