Inexpensive Home Decor

Monday, April 5th, 2010

If you’re redecorating your home, naturally you’ll want only the best. However, often you’ll find that the best comes with an expensive price tag attached to it as well. Unfortunately, many of us can’t afford to splash out on the finer things in life, especially if we’re redecorating our homes.

That’s where the many discount home decor stores will come to your rescue. In these stores, you’ll find that you can sometimes witness a miracle and find that you can actually get those finer things at a fantastic discount.

Some of the best discount home decor can be found easily at your local department store. That’s probably the last place you might think to look for discounts but if you catch it at the right time, seasonal sales will drive the prices down to discount store prices. Nothing gets better than that, especially if you don’t really want to spend the time going around looking for discount stores or warehouses.

Which, naturally enough, brings us to our next discount home decor stop: discount warehouses. In these you’re presented with a large range of choice from which you can purchase your discount home decor and fittings. These large warehouse stores are ideal if you don’t mind taking the time to browse a bit.

Be warned though, that if you buy from these discount warehouses, you’re just as likely to see your perfect wall-hanging in your neighbors house as well. You should also go prepared to keep a tight grasp on your wallet as some of the items will simply call out to you and never let you go. In this case, you’ll find your new discount home decor items have multiplied substantially more in number than what you originally went in the warehouse to buy.

Another good option, and one which I constantly use, is the Internet discount stores. Just typing in the words Discount Home decor into any Internet search engine will yield such a magnitude of results that you might even become inundated.

The best way to go about this is just to look through a few of the returned stores and find a store that you like. As you progress, you can always delete many of them and find ones that better suit your requirements more exactly.

The Internet option is also very good, if you want to look through your local department store’s Internet web site as well. Often, you’ll find a variety of items at discount store prices that you wouldn’t se at the store itself.

Delivery charges for home decor items bought over the Internet is usually very low or even free if you spend over a certain sum.

Any or all of these methods is a great way to start your redecorating project and you’ll discover that, with only a little effort and thought on your part, you can find discount home decor items that will not only suit your budget but which will also suit your home, and ultimately, that’s all that really matters, isn’t it?

Interior Designing Jobs

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Are you the kind of person who is always changing or redoing your room or even your house? Do you find yourself more satisfied and fulfilled when you’re doing this than when you’re doing any other kind of job? Then perhaps you might want to look into a career change such as going for interior design jobs.

If you’re stuck in a rut of a job and want to go for something different, then this might be exactly what you’re looking for in your life. Working in interior design jobs can be an enjoyable and profitable way for you to spend your time, and if you play your cards right, then there could be quite a lot of benefit to you.

Before you go off and hand in your notice to your present employer however, I’d advise you to consider it very carefully. Remember that, although the market for interior design jobs is larger now than ever before, most interior design jobs are for the self-employed and so you will have to tender for each job, so you might not actually win any jobs when you first start.

Therefore, you should first make sure that interior designing is really what you want to do. And if it is, then make sure that you have enough money saved up for you to be able to live comfortably until your new career gets off the ground.

If this doesn’t sound quite as appealing to you now as it did, you could always stay in your old job and continue with any interior design jobs that you might get at the same time until you feel comfortable enough to make a decision between the two. It’s probably a safe bet to assume that by that point, you would have decided whether you wanted to continue chasing interior design jobs or not.

If you want, you also have the choice of attending an interior design college or taking some interior design courses to further your interior design knowledge. This is also a good way for you to test the water before you get in too deep. An added plus with either of these options is that they can be accomplished with ease and shouldn’t present you with any problems.

Taking any of these courses will only enhance your natural abilities and bring to the fore any talent you have in the field of interior designing. This in turn makes it easier for you to go in for more interior design jobs by giving you a boost up the ladder so you’re better prepared to face whatever comes your way.

The most difficult part will be taking that all important first step of coming out your nice safe cocoon to go into the unknown world of interior design jobs. However, for the person who’s got the interior design bug, there’s no better way to satisfy their interest than by going in for interior design jobs. You’ll find your energy levels and creativity blossoming as never before.

Ideas for Wall Painting

Friday, March 12th, 2010

So here you are, you’ve bought your new house! Its a bit of a mess since the previous owner was in a hurry to sell and had been in the middle of redecorating. You don’t really mind that though, since it gives you the perfect chance to do your house up exactly the way you want it to be done.

But now you need to decide where everything goes and what colours will suit your rooms, but you still don’t have any wall painting ideas.

So, you eagerly sort out your new keys and wander through your new home. The moment you step in through a door ideas hit you. That stylish standard lamp you bought a while ago would look fantastic over there, and you’re pretty sure that your existing couch set will fit in that other room. And you know that a mahogany table would look stunning in the hallway. The only thing you really don’t have much of a clue about are wall painting ideas.

You definitely don’t want to just dab on a few coats of bland paint and be done with it. What you want is something special, something that you can look on with pride every time you see it. And, naturally, you should be able to keep looking at it with pleasure for quite some time to come as well, so it shouldn’t be too domineering.

But where can you get decent wall painting ideas from, and how can you go about getting the wall painting actually done? There are a few ways that you could go about this, the easiest of which being if you have an artistic flair, so that you could get your wall painting ideas out of your head, so to speak and paint the walls as you see fit. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t too artistic and we are hesitant to pick up a brush or roller and apply the first coat of paint without supervision. In this scenario then, you will need some help.

You could begin by hiring a professional interior designer to help you to decide which styles would look suit your home or you could sit down and watch some DIY TV programs, in which they show some pretty stylish ideas on what to do when re-decorating a house and will even give you some stylish wall painting ideas.

If neither of these options is suitable for you, you might just try going down to your local hardware store with fabric swatches and colour sheets of your most prominent pieces of furniture and enlist their assistance on stylish wall decorating ideas.

You might come up with a hodge-podge of wall painting ideas with this last suggestion, but I found that it was the one that worked best for me and now I’m very proud of my slightly quirky house. It reflects who I am just perfectly.

Living Room Decorating Ideas in Black and White

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

When people think about stylish home decor and decorating their home, whether it be one or two rooms or the entire house, the first question that usually springs to mind is colour. Generally people choose colours they are fond of or those which correspond with pieces of their existing furniture. When searching for inspiration for stylish home decor, one idea which is perhaps too often overlooked is decorating with the two basic colours (or shades, to be more accurate) ” black and white.

Black and white, when used in decorating demonstrates style and creates drama. Top decorators say that every room in the house could benefit by adding a slash of black. Black is a colour which anchors and grounds a room. Bringing sophistication, black is definitely a colour that requires attention. Living room decorating ideas for a home using black can include accessories such as light fixtures, trim or furniture. Black serves to bring definition to the focal points in a room. Black is just one of the colours that stands out or makes a statement, but it is definitely one of the most outspoken!

Decorating with the shades of black and white in your living room decorating ideas, provides a clean, fresh, elegant environment. This combination can be added to any room in a house making it a sophisticated space. Black and white are frequently used in contemporary interior design and frequently used to accent other colours in the French Country style. It may be hard to visualize but there are many ideas for decorating a home using combinations of only these two basic colours.

The floor is a great place to start when you’re having living room decorating ideas. Black and white vinyl tiles laid alternately make a beautiful chessboard pattern and gives a clean and elegant appearance. Black marble used on the floor, accented by wide white baseboards is another fantastic idea for decorating a home. Laying white ceramic tiles with a black border or simply painting the floor black or white and using pattern stencils of the opposite colour for decoration is also really stunning. These all are fantastic ideas for re-vamping a home.

Can you think of anything more perfect than white walls in the Mediterranean style? Painting the walls white or even an off-white, say smoke-white or apple-whitemakes a perfect backdrop for decorations such as artwork framed in black. Great living room decorating ideas! Elegant black window surrounds or black shutters against a clean, crisp white wall would certainly create an air of sophistication. Maybe a glass-topped table with a black iron rim and black chairs? These are great ideas for decorating a room using only black and white.

Imagine a bedroom decorated using only black and white - that would be lovely stylish home decor too. A black or white iron bed-stead, covered with a striped black and white blanket or eiderdown. The pillow cases could be either all black or all white and you could add throw cushions in the opposite colour.

A chunky leather black or white armchair or sofa in the corner would certainly accent the living room decorating ideas. Then you could have the white walls with a sophisticated piece of artwork, framed in black, hanging on it. That would surely add to the modern feel of your living room decorating ideas. Black furniture against the crisp white walls would definitely look really neat and tidy and you could spruce it all up with accessories like pewter or silver candlesticks, jugs or vases.

However, if you think that the living room decorating ideas need a bit more colour to finish off the look, perhaps a throw or a cushion in a bold colour such as red or gold on the chair in the corner of the room would be enough to accent the room. There are many ways to decorate a home, however, discovering the one that suits you and those who live with you is really very important. It’s nice to do something extreme and unusual, but please remember that you must be able to live with what you have created for quite sometime.

Thinking of Re-decorating Your Bathroom or Kitchen?

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

For the person who seems to have it all or for the person who is bored with their lifestyle, there are a few things that you can do to jazz-up your life. Perhaps the best way though is to start redecorating your home. Some of the first places you should look at redecorating are your bathroom and kitchen.

These are usually the most overlooked and yet, most often used rooms in the entire house. Just think about it, have you redecorated at least even one of these rooms in the last few years? The answer is almost certainly “no”, in which case, try to think back to the last time you even looked closely at your bathroom or kitchen other than to Spring clean them.

Probably, if you noticed anything at all, you put the notion off until a future date when you could devote more time to decorating your bathroom or kitchen. At that time though, the place probably didn’t look as old as it does now, after all, the years add up and even though you’ve been keeping it spotlessly clean you can’t stop the steady march of time.

The chances are that if you were to take a closer look now, you’ll find that the curtains are looking a bit drab and ragged around the edges, as are the bathroom rugs. And let’s not even look at the toilet roll holder. It is quite true that they don’t make them like they used to, and with very good reason too!

So, do yourself a favour and throw out all that unnecessary clutter in the bathroom and get yourself some new stuff - you will be astonished at what lovely things you can find these days. Anyway, you’ve probably been admiring that lovely bathroom set you saw in the shop for some time, so at the very least now you will have a good reason to go out and treat yourself.

And while you’re about it, don’t forget to buy that nice new salt and pepper set you saw for the kitchen and a few rugs that can be used in either room. Ideally, they should be resilient to such commonplace occurrences like water spillage, soap, oil grease, fat and all the other things that somehow seem to become ground into your carpets.

However, if you’re looking for a few new ideas on decorating your bathroom or your kitchen, there are a number of resources you can get your inspiration from. The best one I’ve found so far are the catalogues, which you can read to your heart’s content.

With all these options, you can even substitute something that is less expensive for the items that you see in the catalogues. This then, is the best way to get your decorating projects started and to keep yourself busy for some time to come and to make your long suffering bathroom and kitchen areas spotlessly new and glitzy.

Stylish Country Home Decor

Friday, December 18th, 2009

The house is finally spick and span and you put your feet up for a minute with a nice cup of coffee by the side of you and you pick away at your muffin. You are tired but it’s the good kind of tired where you know you’ve done a hard day’s work and you have no regrets about it. A happy feeling settles about you and you look around yourself with satisfaction.

A magazine lies in front of you appealingly within reach and you give in and pull it to you, intent on enjoying a well-earned rest. The top cover story springs out at you, entitled ‘Country Home Decor’. Naturally you flip through eagerly to that very section, you had only just seen an article on some stylish country home decor or turning your house into a small country haven in another magazine and it had interested you.

There is page after page of the magazine filled with what can only be described as the most perfect examples of country home decor you can imagine. You gaze longingly at the various styles and furnishings you see gracing the magazine’s pages. A quick look up from your magazine assures you that your own modest home hasn’t changed somehow into one of those lovely country homes you were just looking at.

A heavy sigh passes your lips at this disappointment and you go back to gazing at the magazine spread. You had never thought that you were a person who could stand the whole country home decor style but now upon reflection you think you just might be able to.

Now without your even realising it, you find yourself marking the pieces that intrigue you the most, doing small maths calculations on how best to create the same effect but on the more modest budget that you have at your disposal. After all, it just wouldn’t do to spring for that lovely Welsh dresser and have to go without your freshly ground whole bean coffee, would it?

However, you could certainly buy that beautiful table runner without any problem. And if you donated all those modern chrome coffee mugs and dinner sets to charity you wouldn’t really be splashing out, would you, since you would’ve done your best for charity and donated all these things unselfishly?

And what about exchanging those snazzy blinds for something that’s a bit more in the country home decor style. And while you’re going about it, perhaps you could even swap that ugly lampshade you got as a house-warming gift for something more country.

The only thing that remains for you to do now is to lie back and enjoy the results of your work and gaze with open pride upon your newly redecorated home. Furnished, naturally enough, in the best country home decor style that you could obtain from every source that you found, like that first magazine article that started it all off way back when.

Decorating Ideas for Weddings

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Yes! Yes, yes, and yes a thousand times more. That was the reply you gave two weeks ago when your boyfriend took you out to dinner and proposed. There was no hesitation in your mind then and there really isn’t any now. The only thing that you’re hung up on though is the actual details of the wedding.

Your boyfriend, now your fiance is all laid back and casual and said that anything you want is fine with him. He was sure that you would do a great job, just tell him if you wanted anything.

That’s all good and fine, and usually you would have relished the chance, in fact you did jump at the chance. But now you’re stuck on what to do for your wedding decorating ideas. The motifs are all blending as one into your brain and you still don’t know where to have the reception.

Of course, you could have the reception in an up market hotel with the works, everything catered for and all the niggily little details taken care of, but that seemed so impersonal, and you really want your wedding to be one that you, and everyone else, will remember for the rest of your life. So what can you do now?

Well, first off, just take a deep breath and relax. Working yourself up into a frenzy won’t help. Next call your bridesmaids, and anyone else you trust, together and have a council of war.

This is where you will hammer out the details and get a fresh perspective and new ideas on your planning, and where most of all, you can have some fun with your wedding decorating ideas. You’d be just amazed at how many bright ideas a group of people can get if they’re working on something like wedding decorating ideas with wedding cards being only the least of it.

So you start off with an idea, perhaps to have the all the cards handmade so that they become even more special to you as time goes by. Someone else has the great idea of getting a bunch of those little disposable cameras so that interested people would be able to take photographs, and you’d end up with a great many more candid pictures than you otherwise would have.

Yet another person comes up with a great basis theme design. Your wedding decorating ideas are now flowing fast and furious as one person after another speaks up offering you all the help you need to get your wedding plans sorted out.

However, it is your mother who comes up with the best wedding decorating ideas of all and such like being the least of all her concerns! Maybe|Perhaps you’d like to get married and then have your reception at their place.

They could put up a large tent to take care of all the guests, and the house could be done up to suit the occasion. And you say, ‘Yes’, again because there’s nothing you want more than to get married at home.

Decorating The Office

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

It’s been at least a year now since you moved to your new work place and officially took over your new office. At first, you were busy coping with a new home and learning a new job, but now that you’re settled in you start noticing again the same things that you noticed when you first arrived.

The walls are a bland, neutral colour and are looking decidedly depressing. The sun streaming in through the industry-quality blinds is barely enough to light a cupboard and the furniture is just about as plain and worn as it can get. You reckon that a decent amount of time has passed for you to start planning the redecoration of your office.

Naturally, before you start it’s always good to make certain that the powers that be won’t have a problem with your plans. And remember that it is just an office and you should treat your decorating plans as such.

Painting the walls a bright red colour possibly might not work. However, you could brighten things up a bit by repainting the walls a bright and airy colour that won’t be an eyesore to anyone, least of all you. Then you could always take down those ancient blinds that have been hanging there since the early 1980’s and replace them with something more pleasing and functional.

On the other hand, if the whole of the office is done up in the same style with the same blinds hanging on every window, your stylish changes might not be appreciated by your colleagues. So think twice before doing something that changes the whole look and atmosphere of the entire office.

There are, however, easier methods you can use to carry out your office decorating project without too much hassle to you and which doesn’t necessarily take too much thought. You can brighten up any room by placing a couple of flowering plants here and there around your office.

However, if you’re like me and you don’t have green fingers or if you compel any plant in your vicinity to immediate suicide, then maybe you shouldn’t bother with plants. You could however bring in some lively pictures and hang them up on your walls. Or perhaps you have kids and they have painted some lovely pictures for you.

These work well too, and will show your co-workers another side of your character. But, don’t get stressed out over anything though - you really don’t need a simple decorating job to add to the rest of your worries. Besides, an office decorating project should be fun and stress free.

Remember, your office decorating project should not involve your upsetting the whole office, or yourself. It should be something that you can live with on a daily basis.

After all, you spend a lot of the day at your office, it should be a place where you can be just as at ease as you are in your own home.

Interior Painting Ideas

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Redecorating or renovating your house is never easy, and it gets much harder and more tedious when you need to paint as well. Sloshing on one coat of paint after another can be draining if you’re doing it alone and still have the whole house to consider.

And let’s not even start thinking about those ceilings! However, even though you may have to stick to the same old traditional exterior paint job, it doesn’t have to be the same for the interior - you could always try out some outlandish but pleasing interior painting ideas. If nothing else you’ll be guaranteeing yourself comments from all those who come into your house.

By keeping the exterior painting to the necessary minimum, you can spend more time and more creativity inside. You can let your imagination run wild with all those interior painting ideas you always wanted to implement but never got around to. There’s no time like the present, and be honest, when are you going to get around to painting your house again?

Don’t get alarmed though, when I’m talking about out of this world interior painting ideas I’m not saying that you should do something that resembles a Picasso painting. I’m talking about something more along the lines of a paint job that will reflect back who you are.

Your interior painting ideas do not have to be anything bolder than a splash of vibrant colour on one wall, surrounded by soothing colours on the other walls. This works very well in any room and the vibrant colour that you pick can be either soothing or primal, depending on what you want to show about yourself. You could, of course, always go to extremes and emulsion all the walls a bright vibrant shade or even blend different shades on different walls.

If you’re doing this, then you may want to think about the effect you’ll create and whether you can actually live with the colour scheme for very long. Crazy and inspired interior painting ideas are all very well and good, but you should always take into account whether you’re going to be able to bear the sight of your newly panted walls or not after a month or so. If you are going to have to repaint everything again, it kind of defeats the purpose.

This doesn’t mean that you should restrain your creative urges or stifle your interior painting ideas. All it means is that some of your bolder ideas, should perhaps be the subject of a small trial-run somewhere else.

Don’t think of painting your house as something that you have to do. If you want to, you could always think of yourself as Michelangelo or Da Vinci or any of those great artists and create a stunning mural. The only necessity is that you let your great interior painting ideas become reality and that you have lots of fun while you’re doing it.

If you are searching for modern interior painting ideas, then you must go along to our website for more free ideas on Stylish Home Decor and more.

Home Decorating Ideas

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

If you’re interested in renovating or redecorating your home, you’ll need some great home decorating ideas. These aren’t all that hard to come by and if you’re quite an artistic person with an eye for what looks good, then you shouldn’t have any problem getting great home decorating ideas for yourself. Most people however are probably like me and don’t have a clue where to start and what to change to make their homes a brighter place to live.

The first time I started a home decorating project, I was completely clueless and didn’t know what to do first. Should I strip the wallpaper first or take out the carpet? Should I fit those new double-glazed windows or should I buy a sanding machine to clean off all those wooden bits around the room. The list, as you might have guessed, is endless and I could go on forever but in the interests of your valuable time, I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination.

Home decorating ideas are all very good, but if you want to do major renovation work, then you should almost definitely call in professional renovators - people who can handle the job properly for you. If you’re going down this road, then make sure that the renovators you go with are willing to adhere to the home decorating ideas that you give them, and won’t go off on a tangent of their own.

Alternately, you can just choose to overlook that ugly wallpaper that’s been surrounding you for some time now, but go ahead with some of the smaller items on your list of home decorating ideas. This will have a two-fold benefit for you.

The first one is that you’ll be in full control over the situation and you’ll be able to oversee every step in detail if you wish. The second benefit is that by starting off small, you can see if you really want to continue renovating your home and progress to the more ambitious home decorating ideas that you have on your agenda.

Whichever method you decide on, you must first be aware that once you start to redecorate your home, money will run out of your pockets like water out of a tap and won’t stop until you actually stop. So, if you’re going to take on this whole renovating project, be prepared to find yourself skint until you finish.

So, although home decorating ideas are a great way to do up your home, keep a tight grip on your wallet. And keep an even tighter one on yourself, as you’ll want to implement any and every good idea you come across that you think will look great in your home.

Once you get started you’ll be practically unstoppable - a force to be reckoned with and your home will look just the way you’ve been imagining it ever since you bought it.
