5 Ways To Readjust Your Work Schedule And Spend More Time With Your Kids

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Where do you spend the majority of your day? If you’re like most of us, you spend at least a third of it at work. The other third sleeping. With only eight hours a day, sometimes less, to eat, bathe, run errands, commute, relax and, on a good day, spend some time with your family.

Which particular eight hour segment of the day should you think about changing for the better? What portion doesn’t feel right? You do need the eight or so hours of sleep to be healthy, to keep your energy up and allow your body to repair itself for another hectic day. You need to spend time with your family to keep your sanity and maintain good relationships. Unfortunately, those errands and other daily chores aren’t going to go away.

So, what is the solution to the change you want to make in one eight-hour portion of your day?

Five Ways to Work less and gain more time with your Kids

1) Work out a schedule that lets you telecommute a couple days a week. I’ll be the first to tell you that working from home still means actually working. That means you aren’t going to be able to take those whole eight hours and play with your kids. It does mean, however, being home for meals and special events. And there’s something very comforting about sitting at a desk with your laptop while your three-year-old colors and the baby snoozes in its bassinet on the other side of the room.

2) Look into a flex-time option. Can you work twelve hour shifts three days a week and put in a half day on the fourth instead of five eight-hour shifts? Can you work sixty hours one week and forty the next? Those long days are gonna hurt, I’m not going to lie, but the return you get on your days off makes it all worth it.

3) Locate a day care facility near your workplace. This isn’t always an option but if it can work for you it is a great solution. You can meet your child in the daycare center along with his friends for lunch and a little play time. Your child will feel special because mommy came to see him and you will feel great being able to see him in the middle of your work day.

4) If your kids are school age and your spouse will go along with it, work the night shift. Kids are generally in school all day, so why not work when they are asleep? An overnight shift allows you to work when they sleep and you to sleep when they are in school. This is a win-win situation for all. This, of course, only works when your children are old enough to go to school, but believe me, that time will be there before you know it.

5) Set up an office and go out on your own. This is the age of the freelancer and the private contractor. Building your own business requires a tremendous amount of time and discipline. The benefits of being able to work from home, on your own schedule, and not having to deal with daycare or sick days or scrambling to make time for vacation, are more than worth it.

Whatever option you chose, you’ll find yourself with more hours for those more important things. Family, friends, and some time to just chill are necessities that you’ll no longer have to go without.

Paying Into A Single Premium Fund Account

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

Retirement income is an important part of being able to enjoy your golden years. A single premium annuity is one of the options for setting up a steady cash flow. This type of account can be a good choice for someone with a large amount of money that they want to put towards their retirement income.

When people open annuities, they are paying into an account that then pays it back after a certain number of years, or period of time. The money comes back in a slightly larger amount, because it collects interest. Organizations offer annuities because they can use the funds during the period of time between payments to them and back to you, and because of this, many different types of programs offer them.

In many cases, people pay into annuities over a long period of time. A single premium deferred annuity is one where the person makes one large payment as opposed to many, smaller monthly payments. Any time when a person has access to a large amount of money that they want to work for them in retirement, this can be a good choice. An inheritance, a mature CD, or other financial windfall might be best invested in one or more annuities.

Some annuities pay for a set period of time, such as 20 years. Others pay for the lifetime of the recipient. When the recipient of a fixed length annuity dies, it may be possible to transfer the remaining payments to a spouse. However, when the recipient of a lifetime contract dies, their payments are ended.

Depending on the contract, the way that annuities pay out can be different. Some pay out a fixed amount every month, while others can be adjusted or pay out differently. Sometimes people can opt to get less than the maximum possible for a period of time, which allows them to have larger payments or be paid longer. Others might receive steadily increasing payments over the life of the fund.

As good as they are for retirement income, annuities are not very flexible. Should the person who holds the policy find themselves with a need for cash before they are of retirement age, or need to access all of their funds at once, there can be steep penalties. When entering into a contract, policyholders should be aware that access to their funds will be limited from then on.

Most annuities work in a fairly similar manner, and a single premium annuity is no exception. The main feature of this type of fund is the payment made to begin the contract - it is one large lump sum, rather than a series of monthly payments.

Certifications Essential For A Job In The Software Industry

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

We live in a world that is being gradually flattened by technology. Our society and culture is supported and driven by technology. As of today, a lot of industries depend on technology for efficiency and productivity. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that most of that which makes our lives better depends on software. In the last decade, we have seen software take over the driving seat. Without the computing and software industry, the growth it spawned since its inception would never have been possible.

It is a well known fact that the software industry is growing at an unprecedented pace, perhaps better than any other industry. Jobs in the software sector are some of the best paying ones. Thus, a career in software is extremely lucrative both in monetary as well as future security terms. Generally, our worldview of the software industry is confined to programming. It is definitely a large part of the industry however, it is by no means the be all and end all. There are several other roles: testers, developers, designers, computer scientists, etc.

Because of the complexity and specific nature of computer, or software related jobs, you will find several certification programs available. These help you be at par with anyone else who has the knowledge of the same language. HP, for example, has an excellent tool - Quality Center - for software lifecycle management. Other computing giants such as Sun and Cisco have their own certification programs, specifically for networking. These tools aren’t limited to these specific companies; in fact, almost everyone in the industry uses these. Hence, it would be beneficial to apply for Quality Center training.

Since version 11, HP made significant changes to Quality Center and now calls it Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) v11. Since it is a complex tool, HP offers Quality Center training and certification. Quality Center certified individuals are in high demand and are actively recruited and retained by all major software companies. However, it isn’t exactly a cakewalk. Not everyone can (or does) qualify in the first attempt.

If you are interested in getting certified for Quality Center, you have to take it seriously and prepare hard. You may go through some mock tests; they are really helpful. Remember, software is an intellectual product, a product of pure logic. Hence, that makes working hard equally as important as working smart.

The Key To Foreclosed Properties Is Literally a Lot Of Working Smart And Hard

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

Is real estate still a good investment? With respect to REO Properties, you will find good deals all day every day. The key is finding out how to invest in these properties without ever getting ripped off. Furthermore, you must understand the mindset of the banks and lenders.

What happens at foreclosure sales? There are many investors coast to coast deciding on REO Properties simply because they have witnessed the home foreclosure percentages increase as a result of economic downturn. Most residences aren’t picked up throughout the foreclosure process because more debt is owed on the houses than they’re worth.

We’ve had enough! After unsuccessful attempts at several auctions, the banks finally decide to repossess the property and it comes under their list of REO properties that are up for sale. If you want to invest you need to do some research and preparation before you end up buying.

Banks are not realtors. Many of these houses are left unsold even though financial institutions take them over. Quite a few are in awful shape and can be found in need of repairs. Other properties are in need of upgrading the lenders are certainly not prepared to carry out. Still some houses need substantial modernizing in addition to restorations, financial institutions are certainly a no go.

Financial institutions are the worst landlords. Often, the lenders stay away from mending other than a bit of cosmetic stuff such as landscaping. When choosing these homes, you must know your stuff with regards to acquiring proper home inspections. Don’t forget this, virtually all of these homes are purchased with no warranty!

Get protected. It’s a must to feature an check up condition in the offer to purchase. If you discover the condition completely different from what the financial institution publicized, you can actually avoid the investment without losing a nickel.

Play the offer game! You may come out with an offer and the bank comes back with a counter offer. They have to concerted effort to their auditors and shareholders that they tried to get the best possible price. Just play the offer game! If you receive a counter offer, sometimes waiting a little while before countering their offer is best.

They don’t want these properties. You need to understand that banks are not in the real estate business; they are in the money lending business. Once these properties go to the REO department, the banks are looking to make deals as fast as possible. In many cases, they have no choice but to take a loss on the REO property they would otherwise never sell.

Property Locators are there when you need them. Make obtaining REO Properties a simple process.

Are Forex Trading Courses Essential?

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Being in retail business means buying and selling something or other. This is also called trading and men and women have been trading, buying and selling for tens of thousands of years. However, there are other forms of business accessible to the average person now, especially since the spread of the Internet. Now, instead of trading things, you can trade intangible objects like shares or currencies.

What is more you can trade shares or currencies without ever seeing a certificate and trades are often made within the same day or even in minutes. The Internet has speeded everything up. This has good and bad side effects.

If you know what you are doing, you will appreciate the speed with which you can trade, but if you do not know, you can make more mistakes more easily. Therefore, it is essential to learn how to make electronic trades before you start gambling your money.

Trading stocks and shares is not the same as trading currencies on the Forex, partially because the Forex market is traded on by the whole world twenty-four hours a day seven days a week, whereas stock exchanges are more or less nine-to-five, five days a week. On the Forex, you can lose a fortune while you are asleep.

There are several kinds of Forex trading courses that you can take. You could go to a business school during the day or in the evening; you could follow a correspondence course; you could take a Forex course online, or you could learn from your broker’s own Forex tutorial, which you can also download, if you want to. The quality of the various brokers’ courses differs greatly, so you will either have to read a few tutorials or choose wisely.

Besides the course material, which will probably focus on the technical and fundamental analysis of currencies, you will need to develop some personal skills too. Discipline, patience and insight are the most important personal skills that the would-be thriving Forex trader will have to develop.

You will need discipline to not become emotionally attached to your trades. If you have made a bad decision or if conditions have altered, you have to accept it. Do not take anything personally.

Patience is essential. You have a lot to learn, so learn. Do not just dive into the Forex market or you will soon be broke. Remember that a fool and his money is soon parted, so take some Forex trading courses, even if they are only the free ones and get a few books out from the library on currency trading strategies.

It is to be hoped that you will acquire insight into Forex trading so that you discern opportunities and know when to sell too. Frequently, it is harder to know when to sell that it is to know when to buy. . Most online Forex brokers offer a practice trading account so that potential Forex traders can learn how to use the broker’s trading software without it costing the trader a lot of money in mistakes.
