Medicine - Used in medical practice for many centuries gold has been used to treat various ailments across the world. In today’s medicine gold is commonly used to help treat arthritis. In specific quantities, not in solid gold form, it is used in medicine to reduce pain and stiffness. Scientists also hope that gold will be able to help treat cancer. It is already used in treatment of prostate cancer but there are hopes of it to be used to battle all cancers.
Electronics - A dependable conductor, gold is used inside a lot of electronic components. Gold’s unequalled properties allow currents to be safely carried without being disturbed by tarnish or corrosion. A small measure of gold is present in almost all advanced electronic devices such as mobile phones. It is commonly used in switches, relays, wiring and connectors.
Aerospace - In much the same way that the properties of gold can be relied upon in Electronics, gold is depended on in many areas of Aerospace construction. As well as being used in circuits as a conductor and connector, Gold is used most importantly as a radiation reflector. Gold-coated polyester film is created and wrapped around many parts of spacecraft. This film reflects radiation and works to stabilize the temperature of the satellite or shuttle protecting the spacecraft from varying temperature changes in the atmosphere around it.
