Selecting An IT Course - News

There are four specialist areas of training in a full CompTIA A+ program; you’re thought of as an A+ achiever once you’ve passed your exams for just two specialist areas. Because of this, most colleges limit themselves to 2 study areas. In reality you’re advised to have the teaching in all areas as many jobs will require an understanding of each specialist area. Don’t feel pressured to pass exams in all of them, although it would seem prudent that you at least have a working knowledge of every area.

If you decide to become a student on the A+ computer training course you will learn how to work in antistatic conditions and build and fix computers. Fault finding and diagnostic techniques through hands on and remote access are also covered.

You may also want to think about doing Network+ as it will enable you to become a networking engineer, and have a more responsible working role.

It only makes sense to consider learning programs that grow into industry acknowledged qualifications. There’s a plethora of small colleges proposing ‘in-house’ certificates which are worthless when it comes to finding a job.

From an employer’s perspective, only top businesses like Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA or Cisco (for example) will get you into the interview seat. Nothing else will cut the mustard.

It can be a nerve-racking task, but landing your first IT job is often eased because some trainers offer a Job Placement Assistance service. Having said that, occasionally people are too impressed with this facility, because it’s really not that difficult for well qualified and focused men and women to secure a job in the IT industry - because there’s a great need for skilled employees.

However, avoid waiting until you’ve finished your training before getting your CV updated. As soon as you start a course, enter details of your study programme and get promoting!

Quite frequently, you’ll land your first role while you’re still a student (even in the early stages). If your CV doesn’t show your latest training profile (and it isn’t in the hands of someone with jobs to offer) then you’re not even going to be known about!

You can usually expect better results from a local IT focused recruitment consultant or service than you’ll get from a training provider’s centralised service, as they will understand the local industry and employment needs.

Fundamentally, as long as you put the same commitment into landing your first IT position as into studying, you won’t have any problems. Some men and women curiously put hundreds of hours into their training course and just give up once they’ve got certified and seem to suppose that interviewers know they’re there.

A valuable training course package will undoubtedly also offer Microsoft (or key company) exam preparation packages.

Steer clear of relying on unofficial preparation materials for exams. The type of questions asked is sometimes startlingly different - and this leads to huge confusion in the actual examination.

Be sure to ask for exam preparation tools so you can verify your knowledge whenever you need to. Practice or ‘mock’ exams help to build your confidence - then the real thing isn’t quite as scary.

Can job security truly exist anywhere now? In the UK for example, where business constantly changes its mind at alarming speeds, it certainly appears not.

Security can now only exist via a quickly growing market, driven by a shortfall of trained staff. It’s this alone that creates the right background for a secure market - a more attractive situation all round.

With the computing market for instance, a key e-Skills analysis highlighted a skills deficit in the United Kingdom of over 26 percent. Alternatively, you could say, this reveals that the country can only find 3 certified professionals for every four jobs that are available now.

This fundamental fact underpins the requirement for more appropriately trained IT professionals in the UK.

No better time or market conditions will exist for getting trained into this hugely expanding and blossoming sector.
